Merry Xmas

Well, my first xmas present has been presented to me.

I'd like to thank work for 5 days of holidays in January, and my parent's and Nat for the return airfare to British Columbia. Nat needed to use up a Westjet voucher that expired on Dec 31st, so she applied it to my flight which made things a whole lot cheaper. I was going to cover my portion of the trip, but a big fight broke out in my family when I told them I did not want anything this year for Christmas. So, I finally broke down and told them that if they HAD to spend money, they could cover my portion of the flight. Why the hell did that make everything alright?

So, January 12th I hop on a plane and a few hours later arrive at (what I hope will be) sunny Vancouver Island for 5 days of relaxation. On the 13th or the 14th, we'll be heading to Mt. Washington for a morning of snowboarding lessons, and then snowboarding the rest of the afternoon. We might try for a second day of snowboarding, depending on how beat down we are from that one. That is pretty much the only real plan that we have, but it will be such a fun trip.

I've only been to Vancouver Island once in my life, and it has left me wanting more ever since. I think it's probably been 15 years or more since I've been there, but I've wanted to live there ever since. There is something about the absolute beauty of that area that just captured my heart. The weather is so perfect in my opinion, with such a wonderful winter climate that allows you to be able to golf or snowboard at the same time of the year. I've never had the luxury of having a pleasant climate in the winter and so I've grown rather tired of these cold Saskatchewan winters.

This will finally be the real start of my effort to actually move to BC. I plan on doing a little job hunting while I'm there, and touching base with some people that I do know throughout BC in order to put the word out that I'm looking for jobs in the region. I am hoping by summer that I will have landed some kind of job out there. I've got accomodations set up in case I need a quick place to stay while starting a job and looking for a place to actually live, so that makes this whole process a lot easier. Another bonus is that I'm not tied to an apartment or house here either, so packing things up can be done very quickly. I'm actually becoming a pro at the overnight move.

I'm going to try not to bore everyone with constant talk about how excited I am about the trip, so I'll also mention other non-interesting things happening in my life... also known as stupid random shit that I feel like putting down here. In no particular order:

1) As noted above, I don't want people to spend money on me at Xmas. If this MUST be done, please choose to donate the money to your favorite charity as they will benefit from the donation more than I would. I will only accept a gift that involves spending time with friends or families (ie: gift certificates for coffee, food or something else that I will be able to do with the people I love)

2) Why is the windshield on my car cracking? A new crack just started from the drivers side last week, and is making it's way across the windshield. The best part is that it's right at my eye level. I guess it's really time for a new windshield.

3) I hate watching friends break up. 2 friends who joined me in Calgary for Nine Inch Nails have split as of yesterday and it's pretty painful to watch because the girl that I'm really good friends with could fall into a pretty big depression from this. I've spent most of my waking, non-working time on call to her trying to make sure she doesn't just lie in bed all day long. The good news is that she got out of bed to actually go to work, which is something that really surprised me. Relationships are stupid.

Alright, so a couple of scenic postcards for ShyAng. It shall be done.

As for the snowboarding part, don't worry B-tard... I'm pretty sure that I'll need lessons as soon as I try to do it again, so you can join me then, and the semi-pro 8 years olds can make fun of us falling on our asses. Good times will be had by all.
