The mini phone books are here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's right ladies and gentlemen... everyone get in line, because the mini phone books are here.
Maybe I should explain. The company that distributes the phone books in our city makes a special phone book for cellular phone customers. It's a complete phone book, with the type shrunk so it's about 1/3 the size of a full sized phone book. What a rediculous idea, but it's apparently popular.
It's so popular that we have actually had people asking about these things for a month now. Some how people get word of these kind of things and as word spread, more and more people kept coming into the store asking about them. Hell... customers were asking me and I had no idea what they were talking about. Apparently, I need to join that gossip community in order to keep on top of what Sasktel is actually doing. With the last cell phone bill a small coupon was included which allows cell phone customers access to 1 free (mini) book.
Customers have been showing up with these coupons in hand for about 2 weeks now, and we continuously tell people that we don't have them in yet. I have noticed the same people show up every couple of days with this bright yellow coupon in hand asking for the books. Some are pleasant about it, while others are not so polite. Apparently by not having the little books in stock, we are actually greatly disrupting some people's lives. At least, that's what many would have you think.
In fact, we got reported to both the phone book distributor and Sasktel today. We have no books in stock, but some customers called and told both companies that we were just not giving out the books. Secretly, we're actually hording these all to ourselves because they are soooo cool. Little, tiny phone books... of course that's what we're doing. So, we got calls from both companies today wanting to know why we were not giving out the books. When I told them we did not receive our shipment yet, they called our head store. Eventually, we did get our shipment today. The reason that we didn't get them from the other store is because our shipper/receiver is in the hospital with deteriorating health (age: 22) and no doctors can figure out what is wrong with him (this sounds vaguely familiar to my situations). So, we haven't had anyone to deliver things between the stores, and they thought he would be back today.
I am actually at a loss for words about this situation. The book is free for customers, and yet look at how people act. Many seem to believe it's their GOD given right to one of these things, and that I'm actually the anti-christ by not giving them one. I've had eyes rolled at me, frustrated sighs, and one guy that actually asked if he had to kill someone in order to get one... looking directly at me. Folks, your lives will not be any better off with these books. They will not show you the way to heaven... however, maybe you'll find your way to another Sasktel dealer because I'm sick of your stupidity.
Little... Tiny... Yellow... phone books.

Where's MY tiny phone book, ya bitch?
Now you know how I feel every time lame chicks from L.A. come into my store demanding I provide them with stick-on bras that don't exist.
I *heart* retail.
I'm sorry... Telus customers are not as lucky as Sasktel customers.
NO PHONEBOOKS FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
